With the new year comes a change to Big Canoe’s monthly Bulk Trash Day. Large items not appropriate for the North Gate trash facility and items to be donated to charity will still be collected on the last Saturday of the month from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., but not in the usual spot.
Instead, Property Owners will drive up Hubbard Road (directly across Steve Tate Road at the North Gate) to the Big Canoe borrow pit, close to the training facility for Public Safety.
To monitor those dropping off items at the new location, Property Owner cards will be checked at the entrance to the borrow pit. Owners can then proceed to the Community Thrift store drop-off area or the Document Shredding truck. Those with items for the Bulk Trash containers will be charged a disposal fee per vehicle as follows:
Why is this change necessary? In 2018, an extra $60,000 was required to keep Bulk Trash Day functioning as a service to the community. That’s a lot of money! Part of the overage was the result of the increased number of residents, but a significant amount can be attributed to non-Property Owners using the service.
We ask your cooperation as this change is implemented. Thanks for your help.
Document shredding by 1st Secure Shredding will be available the first Bulk Trash Day of each quarter: January, April, July and October.
