Ridgerunners’ members are invited to a presentation by bestselling author Joshilyn Jackson on July 13 at 10:00 a.m. in McCormick Hall at the Big Canoe Chapel. The author of The Opposite of Everyone and Gods in Alabama will discuss her newest book The Almost Sisters, due for release July 11.
Set in the South, the novel confronts the truth about family and privilege. “A story of incredible love and bravery,” commented one reviewer. It is “beautifully written, fascinating and deep…a must read novel,” said another. Joshilyn’s books will be available for purchase and signing. Attendees are asked to make a voluntary donation to Pickens Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy. Checks should be made payable to Pickens Ferst Foundation. Advance sign-up on the sheet in the Ridgerunners’ box at the postal facility is requested.
Ridgerunners will travel
It may seem like the changing colors of fall are still a long time off, but that has not prevented Ridgerunners trip planners from organizing enticing activities for fall and beyond. Two trips are planned for the coming year. One is a day trip in October, the other is an overnight trip, or to be more precise, a five-overnight trip to a warm, sunny location, in the early (wintery) months of 2018. What could be more inviting?
Do you have something spooky planned for Tuesday, October 31? If not, Ridgerunners will want to save the date. Sandy Lozano has planned a fun (and frightful) day trip to the historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta. What better way to fully experience the thrills and chills of Halloween than to commune with the spirits at this celebrated site?
Fun in the sun
The cruise planned for Ridgerunners promises to be quite exceptional. “Several years ago Ridgerunners took a cruise,” program co-chair Barbara Henry explained. “Since then we’ve been getting inquiries about when we will do it again. In response, we are planning another cruise for the first quarter of 2018.” Ridgerunners will sail the sunny Caribbean, with stops in Grand Cayman and Cozumel, aboard Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Seas.
Not too soon to become a member
Ridgerunners membership year begins in September, but it is not too soon to sign up on the website at www.bigcanoerr.com. The yearly fee of $16 entitles members to attend six regular monthly meetings on topics that will entertain and educate. Along with the trips, members are invited to attend a festive Christmas party and a year-end spring luncheon.
All members are welcome to join a book group, and play duplicate and/or party bridge with fellow Ridgerunners. Our first meeting of the year is Tuesday, September 12 at the Sconti Clubhouse.
