Col. Thompson tells of special operations in Afghanistan

North Georgia Vets next meets on May 10

Col. John Thompson will be the featured speaker at the May 10 meeting of North Georgia Veterans. He will share his experiences in special operations in Afghanistan.

The North Georgia Veterans May meeting/luncheon will be held Wednesday, May 10, at 11:30 a.m. in Mountains Grille at the Clubhouse. The guest speaker will be Colonel John Thompson, US Army who is the Defense Coordinating Officer for FEMA Region IV. Col Thompson will speak about special operations in Afghanistan.

Col. John Thompson will be the featured speaker at the May 10 meeting of North Georgia Veterans. He will share his experiences in special operations in Afghanistan.

Thompson is a combat veteran of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and has multiple deployments in support of Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Currently, Col. Thompson is the Defense Coordinating Officer FEMA Region IV in Atlanta.
The Augusta, Ga. Native, had multiple commands with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) “Night Stalkers.” Thompson was commissioned in 1987 upon graduation from North Georgia College. He most recently served as 3rd Infantry Division Chief of Staff and United States Forces Afghanistan Chief of Staff.
Some of Thompson’s military awards and decorations include the legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Action Badge, the Master Army Aviator Badge and more.
