Golfers are thrilled with the new practice facility

Excuses are no longer accepted for bad play

Let’s start with the Pace of Play Tip of the Month: Tag team with your cart partner. After one player’s club selection, the other player can take the cart to their ball to get ready for their shot (as long as it’s not directly in front of the partner’s shot!). Don’t forget last month’s tip, when you walk to your ball in the fairway, take the club you believe you will hit, plus one higher and one lower lofted club, just in case.
New practice facility now open
Wow, the practice facility is open! During the opening ceremony, Head Golf Professional Joe Finemore said, “Big Canoe now has a practice facility they can be proud of; it will be truly one of the nicest in North Georgia. All residents of the community should be very happy with this project and how it turned out.”
The short game area of the range will open near the end of October. This is due to seeding of the practice green with bent grass. Once the green is strong enough for traffic, it will open for use.
The new features of the range include: Seven target greens for honing accuracy, two visual bunkers on the range to simulate on-course situations, a bunker designed for fairway bunker shots, short game area for chipping with a green side bunker, all new fixtures to dress up the new practice area, and last but not least, drainage that will allow the range to stay open more than it is closed during the rainy season.
Operationally, the range will close every Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. in season to be clean picked so it is ready for mowing early Wednesday morning. The range will reopen Wednesday morning once it is reset by staff.
A question often heard is, “Why are the yardages to the pins on the signs always wrong?” They won’t be anymore! The yardage signs will be updated daily. The distance to each pin is measured from the closest bag stand to the nearest yardage board.
A special thanks to all who were involved with the ribbon cutting and first drives hit ceremony. If you have questions about the new facility, see Joe Finemore and the Golf Shop staff. Enjoy your new range!
